As we all know yesterday was Groundhog Day. Every time I think of groundhog day I think of that crazy movie starring Bill Murray. Can you imagine waking up every morning and repeating the same thing.. wait a minute... for the most part I do. LOL! According to folklore, if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this day fails to see its shadow, it will leave the burrow, signifying that winter will soon end. If on the other hand, the groundhog sees its shadow, the groundhog will supposedly retreat into its burrow, and winter will continue for six more weeks. My daughter McKenna mentioned that the "ground-dog" did see his shadow. (lol). hmmm... so we have six more weeks of winter?.. ugh.
On a good note. At least we have the Calgary Moms Community to retreat to when we are bored and need to have a little adult conversation. ;)
Have a great month everyone... oh, and Happy Valentine's Day.
When writing of women the pen should be dipped in a rainbow. D.Dederot

Concerns over the growing number of car seats that are ending up in local landfills and limited opportunities for the recycling of these items, has lead an area business owner to take action. Although a portion of these safety devices end up being consigned or donated to service agencies, the vast majority of parents or parents-to-be, have limited knowledge of what they should be looking for, to ensure that secondhand products are completely safe. “All used car seats should have a date of manufacture sticker, as well as a Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) or National Safety Mark sticker, and should not be purchased if they have been in a collision or if there is missing components or parts such as: an instruction booklet, locking clip, harness buckles, latch connectors and tether straps are included,” Ries explains. The onus is also on customers to verify that a used car seat they are proposing to purchase has not been recalled by Transport Canada, and that it doesn’t show signs of stress which manifest as cracks or grayish marks; possible indicators that the item has been involved in a collision and should be discarded immediately. Ries is in the process of establishing a recycling program for families in need and a consignment service for used seats in the Calgary area. Keepin’ Baby Safe works exclusively with car seats, where products that can be reused will be thoroughly inspected by staff with expertise in this area, and sold for a nominal fee. “In today’s market it is not uncommon to find child restraint systems that retail for upwards of $300.00, and providing the opportunity for families in these tough economic times to purchase from an extensive collection of used equipment that is 100% safe and reliable, for their infants and young children, is something we are very excited about,” says Ries. The facility is expected to be open in the summer of 2010 and Ries will continue to partner with other community agencies such as…
